Press Release Summary: MR. VIKRAM THAKUR alias Rajeev Sharma who introduced himself as ETO from Patiala was caught red handed By JCDA extorting ten thousand Rupees from Mr. Puneet Dhir of Dhir & co ( Regd.) on 4.6.2008.
Mr Vikram thakur was active as a fraudulent ETO since last two months in and around Jalandhar and contacted various computer dealers and used various threatening tac-tics for extorting money from them.
Press Release Body: In one of the incident, he approached Mr Puneet Dhir on 30th may 2008 and threatened that if all the data is not handed over to him he would direct the raiding team waiting outside to conduct raid at them. He took the data with him.Mr.Dhir has submitted a written complaint against him to Mr.Harbir Singh(AETC) on 31-05-2008 and got receiving from department on 2-6-2008.
He then called up on 3.6.2008 and again threatened that he would put him in trouble if he did not pay him Rs.10000/- and fixed meeting for 4.6.2008 at 5 p.m. when he was caught red handed by all the Jalandhar Computer dealers association and we immediately informed the sales tax department and the police.
Mr.P.K.Sharma(AETC),Mr.Bhatia(ETO) and Mr.Ranjit Singh(ETO) reached at this place and recorded the written statement of Mr.Dhir and Mr. Rajeev sharma and after that Rajeev Sharma is handed over to SHO Police Div No.2 .
Earlier he extorted Rs.30000/- from Impel Infosys on 28.4.2008 and 2.5.2008 (15000/- each) threatening him that he would change his data. He was hired by the sales tax department as computer expert privately and helping them to find out the correct or incorrect information from the computerized accounting.
He was accompanied with the sales tax officials in conducting some of the inspections on computer dealers and thus extorted money from the computer dealers to prevent them from any type of harassment.
Today the association office bearers also visited and met Mr.P.S.Gill (DETC) in his office and explained the complete episode. DETC has told us that Rajeev is doing all these fraud at his individual level and no sales tax official is related in the matter. DETC also said they have not given him any authority to visit any of the dealer at his own.
Mr. Gill also gave the assurance to the association for any type of further support required from the sales tax department.
